The Daydreamer – August 2017: Week 3 Events

The events in Amman are as popping as these summer vibes! With everyone wanting to milk the summertime, there’s something going on every day of the week in town. This week, we’ve selected a few of our Tipster community favorites…something to float everyone’s your boat, whatever you’re into. From re-living the black and white golden years of the Arab Musical age, to exercising with your kids for great causes, enjoying a melodic jazz evening or checking out a staple local Ammani market, it’s on the list!

Arabic Musicals: The Golden Age! @ Terra Sancta College
August 16 – 20 @ 8:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. 

Ever wondered what the golden age of Arab musicals is like? Well wonder no more. From Wednesday to next Sunday, you can experience first hand Arabic Musicals: The Golden Age! Performed by Dozan wa Awtar singers, take a trip down music-memory lane. It’s going to be a nostalgic and joyous trip to appreciate the artistry that helped shape the musical times of the past. You’ll recognize some of the numbers from old black and white Egyptian movies and songs that appeared in Levantine musicals. You can get your tickets from, The Cakery (Dabouq) and Mlabbas (Abdoun & Rainbow St).

Autostrad & DJ Party @ Seven Hills
Thursday, August 17 @ 7:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. 

AUTOSTRAD will be performing live at Seven Hills this Thursday! So if you’re down to hear some awesome live music, and get your dance on under the stars, then this is the event for you. Get comfy and get ready to groove to the beats. Grab your friends and enjoy the summer vibes that’s going to last into the night with a fantastic band and DJ!

Blue Frog Jazz Night @ Maestro Restaurant & Bar

This Friday, the talented Blue Frog band is going to be performing live for a night of jazz at Maestro! With Hanna Franjieh on Piano/Keys, Robert Hairabedian on Sax, Ibrahim Nawas on Bass and Hrag Mouradian on Drums, it’s going to be one show you won’t want to miss. If you’re down for a jazzy night…this is it. Doors close at full capacity so make sure you show up early with your mixed group of friends, or call to reserve your spot.

ShareYourBeat with DJ Wonka @ Hackmanite

ShareYourBeat is a new initiative supporting music lovers every Monday at Hackmanite! With a fresh face and different genre every week, DJ’s will have a chance to showcase their beats and creativity. This Monday, DJ Wonka will be dropping his Afro, SOUL R&B, and Reggae beats! Happy Hour will be from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and the vibe is going to be awesome. So if you’re down to explore some new music, then this venue and event is definitely one for the books.

Karaoke Night @ Jadayel Hawa
Tuesday, August 15 @ 8:00 – 11:00 p.m. 

Got a hidden talent for singing? Or maybe you just really like belting it out to awesome songs. Whatever it is, head over this Tuesday for a mid-week break with your friends for a fun Karaoke Night at Jadayel Hawa! It’s that time of the week again! The much demanded Summer Nights at Little Italy Pizzeria are back! Come as you are, and enjoy the amazing food and fairy light ambience that will transport you. Feel like having a chill night out in the awesome summer weather in town? Shams Nights is a weekly dinner at Beit Shams. Bring your friends or that special someone for a breezy night filled with favorite seasonal mezzes and traditional BBQ. You’ll have to reserve a spot, so make sure you check out the page for all the info. Dinner is served at 9:00 p.m.!

Ladies Night @ EVOO Restaurant & Garden 
August 13-19 @ 7:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m. 

Need a girl’s night out? Why not check out the Ladies Night at EVOO Restaurant & Garden every night at Sheraton! Starting post-work at 7:00 p.m., ladies night runs till 1:00 a.m. and will really make the women feel special. No cover charge for the ladies, and a free drink is a great way to kick off a night out with your girlfriends to the sick beats of resident DJ Liona (everyday except Tuesday)! Mommy & Kid Yoga for Charity Ages 2-5 @ The Pink Elephant Space
Saturday, August 19 @ 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

It’s all about a 2 for 1 this week with another cause-worthy session. How about a Fundraising yoga class for mommies and kids? Moms will get to work out guilt free, and the kids will let out that full-of-life energy! You’ll bond, spend quality time together and work out while your proceeds go to support the Kids Mental Health Project in Gaza! Check out all you need to know on the event page.

Wadi Mukhaires Adventure @ Adventure Plus 
Friday, August 18 @ 7:00 a.m. – 8:30 p.m. 

Feel like spending an awesome Friday and going for a hike, rappelling and water canyoning? If so, you’re in luck because Adventure Plus is hosting such an event! You’ll meet up with a group, have breakfast, start your adventure, have an awesomely cooked lunch, and then head back to the city! This is a moderate adventure, so no need to be a pro. But water will be part of it, and so dress appropriately! Check out the page for more information. Bonus: You’ll have professional photos taken for an extra 10 JD or 75 JD if you want portfolio-style pics!

Let’s Dance for a Cause! @ Trax Jo 
Friday, August 18 @ 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. 

For the first time in Jordan, a salsa show by the visually impaired and a freestyle show by kids with Down Syndrome is made possible by the fantastic Nsireen Issam Matalka. Even though the dancers might not be able to see you, you watching their show is a sign of support and love much needed for this great cause! Bring your kids for hours of entertainment, for not only the show by Pulse, but magic shows, games, bubble soccer, delicious food and more! The event will be hosted by MC Diala Dabbas, and the benefits will go to the Raneen Charity Institute. You can get your tickets at Hamelys in Abdoun and Pulse Dance School.

Souk Jara @ Souk Jara
Friday, August 18 @ 10:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.

Souk Jara is a classic Ammani must-do in the summer. The market has been on since May, and it’s heading into wrapping up. So make sure you grab your friends and family and head over to one of Jabal Amman’s oldest streets in search for unique merchandise, great vibes and fun activities. You’ll find antiques, souvenirs, handicrafts, art, accessories and more. It’s a perfect way to spend a Friday. You’ll find full on entertainment; local bands, talent shows, magicians, and other performances will take place on the Souk Jara Theater!
